City & Guilds 6073-30 Building Information Modelling (BIM) Awareness

Aim

Construction makes a significant contribution to the UK economy, representing around 10% of GDP, and employing 3 million people across the industry.  However, current modes of operation are inefficient, wasteful and do not always result in the desired outcomes.  BIM provides the opportunity to change this, by making use of technology and reforming working practices, in order to achieve significant economic and social  benefits. It relates to BS8536.

The UK government aims to procure all publicly funded construction projects to what is now called ‘BIM Level 2.’ However, many people in the construction industry do not yet know what BIM is about, what it entails, or how to get themselves or their organisation BIM ready.

This course will provide you with an overall awareness, and is suitable for anyone working on publicly funded construction projects. You will gain knowledge of fundamental concepts associated with BIM; from knowledge of key terminology, to the principles and standards associated with BIM implementation in the UK. You will develop an understanding of the drivers leading to BIM implementation, the barriers to success, and the benefits that can be gained.

BIM affects the whole supply chain, and so this course is appropriate whether you are a client, main contractor, subcontractor or designer. The use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) has the potential to improve the efficiency of the building environment; both in the construction process and in operational use.

You will gain an increased awareness and understanding of BIM across all three stages of the construction process: Design and Plan, Build, Manage and Use.
